Ayurveda: The Science of Life

Ayuh(life) Veda (Science)

Ayurveda, often called "The Science of Life," is an ancient holistic approach to living in harmony with nature, originating in India. This system emphasizes awareness and the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit, reflecting how the five elements manifest uniquely in each individual. Ayurveda also uses the concept of qualities (or guna) to describe and understand our physical and mental experiences, offering insight into how different attributes—such as warmth, coolness, heaviness, or lightness—shape our well-being. At its core, Ayurveda operates on two foundational principles: "like increases like" and "opposites balance." By understanding and honoring our individual constitution, Ayurveda guides us toward balance, allowing us to live with vitality and ease, rather than suffering from dis-ease.

Allison Dessimone

Allison's journey began during her college years, as she balanced school, work, internships, and the challenges of everyday life. It was during this time that she discovered yoga, which quickly became a powerful tool for maintaining balance. As her practice deepened, she noticed subtle shifts in her mindset, and yoga facilitated transformative growth in every aspect of her life. Committed to her practice, Allison completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2015 and followed it with a 300-hour program in 2018.

Her curiosity soon led her to explore yoga’s sister science, Āyurveda. Under the guidance of Dr. Cory Tixier and Dr. Jennifer Ayres at New Moon Āyurveda Academy, Allison became a devoted Ayurvedic student in the lineage of Dr. Vasant Lad.

Allison’s studies continued with a focus on Marma Therapy and Ayurvedic Therapies, training directly with Dr. Tixier to deepen her expertise.

Passionate about sharing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, Allison is deeply grateful for your openness to healing and your trust in the process. She is honored to guide others on a journey of self-discovery, helping them reconnect with the natural rhythms and cycles of life.
